The Micro/Nano Systems Track is a program of study and a supporting group of faculty and students intended to build expertise in micro- and nanoscale engineering. It is currently available to MS thesis and PhD students in the department of Mechanical Engineering. Participation in the track will help guide your program of study and connect you with a cohort of students and faculty working in Micro/Nano research areas. Although the track is currently located in the Mechanical Engineering department, undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering all provide an excellent background for micro/nano research and students with those backgrounds are encouraged to participate in the track. If you are interested in micro/nano related graduate research, we encourage you to peruse the Associated Faculty tab and contact faculty members doing research in areas that interest you.

The program requirements for MS Thesis and PhD requirements are

MS Thesis

  • All students must take ME EN 6050 Micromachining and ME 6065 Microsystem Design and Characterization.
  • Students must take at least 3 electives from the list of approved elective courses (see Courses tab)
  • Consult with your advisor on remaining courses. Program of study must be approved by thesis committee.

PhD

  • All students must take ME EN 6050 Micromachining and ME 6065 Microsystem Design and Characterization.
  • Students must take at least 4 electives from the list of approved elective courses (see Courses tab).
  • Consult with your advisor on remaining courses. Program of study must be approved by thesis committee.

Please see the MS Thesis and PhD tabs for example programs of study and the Courses tab for a description of elective courses.
